Introduction to Themes

A Theme is a predefined collection of design elements, such as a layout, fonts, colors and/or logos that, when applied together, shape the overall look and feel of an Elevate site. Creating a Theme begins in the themes management section, which is accessible through the Settings menu under Site Settings. Here, Elevate Administrators can create a new theme or edit an existing theme.

NOTE

The Themes feature will only be available to accounts currently using "Custom Design" for their site. If your site is operating on a “Basic Template,” which only allows for self-service design, you will not have access to the Themes feature. If you would like to access this feature, please contact support for an upgrade.

Manage Themes

To create or manage your themes, navigate to Settings in the side menu. Next, select Site Setup and Themes

In the themes management section, Elevate users can:

  • Select a layout
  • Upload a logo
  • Select general, button and widget colors
  • Choose heading and body font
  • Customize the footer

The themes management section provides various tools to help you preview, customize, activate, duplicate and manage your Elevate Themes (Fig 2).

  1. To create a new theme, select the Add New Theme button. This will direct you to the Website Designer, where you can customize the theme.
  2. Select the Preview button to launch a new window displaying how the theme will look on your Elevate site.
  3. Select the Edit button to open the Website Designer. Use this option to customize the theme's design, layout, or features.
  4. Selecting Set as Active Default Theme will activate the theme across all site pages, unless a particular page has a different theme designated as active.
  5. Select the Clone button to create a copy of the theme, including its current settings.

Use the clone to create a backup before making further edits or experimenting with design changes.

  1. If a theme is no longer needed or relevant, select the Delete button to remove it from the list.

IMPORTANT NOTE

You cannot delete a theme that is set as the default or a static designer-created theme. Once themes are deleted, they cannot be recovered.

Within the themes management section you can create multiple themes, however only a single theme can be published as default. This selected theme will be used on all pages and products on the Elevate site, unless otherwise specified.

To apply a custom layout or theme to a specific product or page, the theme must first be created in the Theme management section and then added to the product or page using the Custom Layout or Theme dropdown.

Legacy Theme Restrictions and Support Options

Certain Elevate sites utilize a "Static Designer-created theme," which is considered a legacy theme developed by the Cadmium design team. If your site is using one of these legacy themes, it can be set as the default theme for your site; however, it cannot be directly edited in the theme management section (Fig 3). Any updates or changes to these themes need to be managed by the Cadmium design team. To request changes to a static designer-created theme, please submit a support ticket.
