For SCORM files, here is what we recommend:
SCORM Standard: We recommend using the 2004 4th Edition.
Status representation: we recommend setting for passed / incomplete
Success/Completion Criteria: If there are no quizzes, we recommend setting a number of slides. But, for safety, we recommend setting the slide count 5% less than the total slides. So if the slide count is 50, set the slide Pass at 46. This way, if there is a skippable slide it doesn't penalize the user's Pass ability.
SCORM 2004 (Recommended)
This version has two distinct data buckets: cmi.completion_status and cmi.success_status. This allows the LMS to show a user as "Completed" (they saw all slides) and "Passed" (they hit the quiz score) simultaneously.
Best Edition: Use 4th Edition if your LMS supports it, as it handles the "Unknown" status more gracefully until the course is finished.
SCORM 1.2: This version only has one bucket: cmi.core.lesson_status. It can only hold one value at a time (e.g., "Passed" or "Completed").
The Catch: If you set it to "Passed," many LMSs will automatically assume "Completed." However, if you need them to be separate reporting columns, SCORM 1.2 may not provide the granularity you want.
Authoring Tool Settings: Regardless of the tool (Storyline, Captivate, Rise, Lectora), you need to set these three specific conditions:
A. Reporting Status - In the "LMS Reporting" or "Output" section, look for a dropdown often labeled Report Status to LMS as: Select: Passed/Incomplete or Passed/Failed.
Why? Choosing "Completed/Incomplete" often tells the LMS to ignore the quiz score and track only whether the learner reached the end. Choosing a "Passed" option forces the tool to send the success status.
B. Tracking Criteria - You must tell the tool what "triggers" the completion.
Track using quiz result: Select the specific Final Results slide.Track using the number of slides viewed: Set this to a percentage (e.g., 90-100%) if you want to ensure they viewed the content in addition to passing the quiz.Mastery Score: Ensure your quiz has a "Passing Score" set (e.g., 80%). The tool sends this to the LMS so the LMS knows when to toggle from "Failed" to "Passed."
C. The "Complete Course" Trigger (Storyline specific)
If you are using Articulate Storyline, you can use a "Complete Course" trigger on the final button.
Setting: Change the status to "Passed" when the user clicks the button or the timeline ends. This acts as a backup to ensure the "Success" status is sent even if the quiz result is finicky.
To replace an existing SCORM file in an existing SCORM component:
Navigate to the component you wish to update with a new file, then click "replace"

Select the criteria which must be met in order to move an existing registration to the new uploaded version of the course. Then upload the new .zip file.

In January 2023 The Elevate SCORM module was rewritten with the V2 API available from SCORM Cloud. There are no visible changes or functionality changes. Admins will not need to make any updates to existing SCORM components. Admins will continue to be able to upload SCORM content and set component completion requirements based on the SCORM course. Users will launch the SCORM item from the component. Reports will remain the same.
